LUDHIANA: Top-seeded Shweta Rana was stretched by qualifier Eetee Mehta before she pulled through for a 6-2, 7-6(6) victory in the women's semifinals of the AITA ranking tennis tournament at the Harvest Tennis Academy, Jassowal, on Thursday.
Shweta, who put herself in line for a double by winning the doubles title with Deepna Vazirani, will be challenged in the singles final by wild card Ravnoor Kaur who stopped qualifier Supriya Mallaya in three sets.
In the men's section, the former National champion Nitten Kirrtane cruised into the final by dismissing qualifier Ajay Yadav for the loss of three games in the semifinals. He will meet Gurinder Singh in the final.
Nittin Kirrtane also put himself in line for a double, as hein partnership with Sandeep Choudhary won the doubles title with ease, beating Vinod Gowda and Siddharth Sivakumar in straight sets.
