Customize the Start Menu to show Recent Files
To customize Windows Vista's Start Menu settings:
1. Right Click on the "Start" button and go to "Properties".
2. It will open the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window.
3. Click "Start Menu" tab and check "Store and display a list of recently opened files" and
"Store and display a list of recently opened programs" checkbox.
4. Click "Ok" to apply the change.
Here after wards you can view recent files opened in Start -> Documents
