Thank you, dear teacher, thank you
For teaching my son with due
Consideration for his attitude,
Age, needs, aspirations and aptitude.
Surely teachers are learned,
Patient, kind and broad-minded.
They are the tillers of children’s hearts
And the true growers of country’s arts.
They are the pillars of treasures old
And the makers of tomorrow’s world.
You should be proud of your vocation
And be aware of its reputation.
But may I with all fervour
Ask of you a small favour:
Please, dear noble teacher, refrain
From saying my son has no brain.
You may say he is playful,
You may say he is slothful,
Call him if you want childish,
Or if he be so, sluggish,
But never say he has no brain, please,
Dear good teacher, you are not a tease.
