Rs. 58.12 lakh granted for school infrastructure

PUDUKOTTAI: Five panchayat union middle schools, which were upgraded into high schools during the current academic year, have been sanctioned Rs. 58.12 lakh each under the infrastructure development component of the Centrally-sponsored ‘Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan' (RMSA) scheme.
As the first instalment, a sum of Rs. 30 lakh was released to each school on Tuesday.
Addressing the heads of school after handing over the cheques, Collector A. Suganthi appealed to them to take maximum efforts for providing educational opportunities to the pupils of rural areas.
The panchayat union schools, which were upgraded were located in Thaazhanur village in Avudaiyarkovil block; Kurungalur in Arimalam block; Rajendrapuram in Aranthangi block; K.V. Kottai in Tiruvarankulam block and Kalkudi village in Viralimalai block.
R. Kanagasabapathi, Additional District Programme Co-ordinator for RMSA, said that in all 190 panchayat union middle schools had been upgraded into high schools this academic year (2009-10).
