What's the Five-Timers Club?
A very select group of personalities who have hosted or appeared as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live at least five times belong to the Five-Timers Club. It was first referred to by Tom Hanks when he made his fifth appearance as host of the show in December 1990. Some other Five-Timers are Steve Martin, Christopher Walken, Paul Simon, John Goodman, Buck Henry and Randy Newman. An even more exclusive group of performers comprise a so-called Platinum Club — people who have hosted SNL at least 12 times. Martin leads the pack with 15 appearances as host; Alec Baldwin racked up his 14th guest-host spot in February 2009, and Goodman just made it into the club with 12 appearances. Happy birthday to Emmy-winning actor Alec Baldwin, who turns 52 today.
