NEW DELHI: Though the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has managed to collect Rs.690 crore by way of property tax this year in preliminary estimates compared with Rs.606 crore last year, it has still not managed to meet its target of Rs.725 crore.

According to civic body estimates, while the property tax collection has increased, transfer duty collection has fallen to Rs.409 crore which is also short of the target of Rs.450 crore set by the MCD.

According to the MCD, online property tax collection has come down this year. “Last year our server crashed in the month of June when the maximum number of taxpayers pay their tax.

This year it seems a lot of people have refrained from using the online system for submitting their tax out of fear. In the past six months there has hardly been any increase in online tax deposition. However, we have still managed to increase our overall property tax collection despite being bogged down by a manpower shortage of about 60 per cent,” an MCD official said.
