JAIPUR: He is the only Indian coach in the Indian Premier League. And he can take pride in the fact that he has done exceedingly well, guiding Mumbai Indians to a semifinal slot.
For Robin Singh, it means a lot. After being summarily removed from the support staff of the Indian team, he landed this job courtesy Sachin Tendulkar, who has always rated Robin high for his technical reading of the game. Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh were keen to have Robin at Mumbai Indians and the decision has only helped the team grow in this edition of IPL.
Happy man
From the near-bottom position in IPL II, it is creditable that Mumbai Indians has become the first team to reach the semifinals in IPL III. Robin is happy working tirelessly in the background and underplays his contribution as a coach. “It is a team game. I can provide inputs but ultimately it is the player who performs. The coach has a specific role and I am happy as long as the players are happy and the team is doing well.”
