NEW DELHI: Israil Gurung led Sesa Football Academy (Goa) to a resounding 7-1 victory over Simla Youngs (Delhi) in the ONGC second division football league here on Monday.
The win put Sesa on 12 points from five matches and the Goan side is now assured of a place in the final round of the qualifying competition.
Gurung struck four times in his team's thumping victory. His speed, agility and deft passing left the rival team guessing and he proved to be a constant threat to the Delhi side.
The first half of the match yielded just one goal when Gurung scored in the 14th minute. Sesa's defenders easily handled the attempts by Simla Youngs to get the equaliser.
The second half witnessed a goal spree as the Goan team made consistent attacks through either flank. Seven minutes after the interval, Gurung made it 2-0. In the 62nd minute Gabriel Fernandes gave the Goan team a 3-0 lead.
The local team, hopelessly placed, made some attempts through G. Kamei and Ugochukwu Ogbuka but instead they conceded another goal in the 65th minute when Gagandeep Singh made it 4-0.
