North India reels under heat wave

NEW DELHI: With the mercury staying above normal, the heat wave continued unabated in many parts of the country on Friday. Sabarkantha district in Gujarat reeled at a high of 46.6 degrees Celsius.

Gujarat continued to experience severe heat conditions with the temperature in some parts of the State soaring to over 46 degrees. The highest temperature of 46.6 degrees was recorded in Idar taluka of Sabarkantha district. The national Capital continued to be in the grip of searing heat with the mercury shooting up to 42.9 degrees, the highest on this date in the last five years.

The maximum of 42.9 degrees in Delhi was six degrees above normal and the minimum of 23.5 degrees four notches above the normal.

Summer conditions intensified in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with Hisar reeling at a high of 46 degrees, nine notches above normal. The mercury hovered between seven to nine degrees above normal in the region.
