Flex-10 Technology
Flex-10 NIC device:
Flex-10 NIC devices are dual-port 10Gb LAN on Motherboard (LOM) devices and mezzanine cards that support up to four Flex NICs on each port. The Flex-10 device contains eight separate PCI functions, four per port, that enable the Flex NICs
NIC - Network Interface Card or Ethernet Adapter
PCI - Peripheral Component Interconnect, an industry-standard bus for attaching peripherals to computers.
Flex-10 makes LAN to connect 10GbE more flexibly and efficiently.
With Flex-10 technologies, each server can have up to four times as many NIC connections without adding NIC cards or switches.
How Does Flex-10 Work:
The Flex10 port presents the Flexnics as four sub-devices, Flex10 port 1 presents the Flexnics as:
1a
1b
1c
1d
Flex-10 port 2 presents the Flexnics as;
2a
2b
2c
2d
When assigning an Ethernet network to a Flex-10 nic, it will alternate between the two Flex-10 ports. It will start by displaying the first Flexnic of the first Flex-10 port (1-a), then the first Flexnic of the second Flex-10 port (2-a) and so on.
