Fmr Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao bags Best Actor award

Veteran Telugu film personality and former Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao was adjudged the best actor for 2009 in annual Nandi film awards announced by Andhra Pradesh government.

Narayana Rao, who directed about 150 films in a career spanning several decades, got the best actor award for his performance in the film Mestry.

He had served as Union Minister of State for Mines in the previous term of the UPA government.

Sontha Ooru directed by P Suneel Kumar Reddy was adjudged as the first best feature film, while Baanam and Kalavara Maye Madilo were the second and third best feature films respectively.

Best leading actress award was given to Teerdha for her performance in the film Sontha Ooru.

S S Raja Mouli has been declared the best director for his blockbuster movie Magadheera starring Chiranjeevi's son and young hero Ram Charan who also bagged one of the special jury awards for his role of a warrior in Magadheera.

The film bagged several awards including Best Popular Feature Film providing wholesome entertainment, Best Art Director award for R Ravinder, Best Choreographer for Siva Sankar, Best Editor for Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.

M M Keeravani, who has given music to Bollywood films like Jism, Criminal and Sur, bagged the Best Music Director award for the devotional film Vengamamba.

Renowned playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam got the Best Male playback singer award for his song in the film Mahatma while Chitra got the Best Female playback singer award for the movie Kalavara Maye Madilo.

N Taraka Ratna, a grandson of legendary N T Rama Rao, got the Best Villain award for his performance in the film Amaravati.

Leading Telugu hero Srikant got a Special Jury award for his performance in the film Mahatma.
