Tuljapur Bhavani Temple

Tuljapur is home to the famous temple called Tulja Bhavani Temple which is dedicated to Goddess Bhavani. Located on a hill known as Yamunachala, it is one of the four Shakti Peethas of Maharashtra. The temple is placed on the slopes of the Sahayadri range and is about 40 kms from Sholapur.
Tuljapur is about 650 meters above the sea level. It is in Osmanabad district of Maharastra. The nearest railhead is Sholapur and the nearest airport is Aurangabad which is about 257 kms from Tuljapur. The city of Tuljapur is well connected by roadways and has frequent buses to all major spots of Maharastra. The nearest bus station is Osmanabad which is about 25 kms from Tuljapur.
The History:
The temple town of Tuljapur has a great history. History records the existence of temple since 12th Century. It rose to prominence during the Maratha regime when the famous king Chhatrapati Shivaji ruled the major part of India. It is said that Shivaji used to take blessing of this Deity of Bhavani for success in his military campaigns. In this legendary it is also mentioned that mother Tulja Bhavani presented Shivaji with the Bhavani Sword that made him invincible king of the era.
The Deity of Bhavani: Bhavani of Tuljapur is worshiped in the form of 3 foot high granite image. She has prominent eyes with eight arms holding weapons. In one hand she has the slain head of Mahishasura. She is also called by the names Turaja, Tvarita and Amba.
Rituals and Worship: Bhavani is worshiped with great fervor in the temple. Four ritual poojas are offered each day here. On special occasions like Navratras, Lalita Panchami, Makara Sankranti and Rathasaptami, thousands of devotees flock the temple. It is gaining lot of importance from all over India and becoming one of the great pilgrimage centers of India.
