Sachin Tendulkar hit his 49th Test match century when he got to his 100 against Australia at Bangalore in the second Test match.
Tendulkar got to his 100 in the first session on the third day and led the Indian fightback against Australia after they were struggling at 38/2 at one stage. Australia had earlier scored 478 in their first innings. Tendulkar got to his 100 in 157 balls.
Tendulkar resumed his innings on the third day from his overnight score of 44, and he proceeded to score a half century. This was his tenth score of 50 or more in the last ten Test matches.
In turn, Tendulkar combined with Murali Vijay to add 186 runs in 302 balls (at the time of writing) just prior to the lunch break and took India closer to avoiding the follow-on.
India had gone into the Test match without Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman, which meant that the line-up consisted of the likes of Vijay, Suresh Raina and Cheteshwar Pujara.
