The one of the big festival of Sikh, they are celebrating worldwide birth anniversary of Guru Nanak
Dev today.
The festival is also called Gurpurab or Guru Nanak Jayanti. Guru Nanak Dev ji is the 1st Sikh Guru.
Guru Nanak Dev ji was a modest tribute to the founder of the Sikh religion and gives an outline of his everlasting glory in the light of references from his living Swaroop, Sri Guru Granth Sahib and from example of sacred life of Guru Nanak himself.
He was a saint and was poet, and philosopher. He was born in a small village, called Talwandi, now in Pakistan. From childhood Guru Nanak showed a great interest in God and he also spoke of celestial things.
A Gurpurab is a celebration or commemoration based on the lives of one of the Sikh gurus. They tend to be either birthdays or celebrations of Sikh martyrdom.
A Sikh festival or special day is called Gurpurb, meaning "Guru's remembrance day". The celebration is generally similar for all Gurpurabs; only the hymns and history of a particular occasion is different. The ceremony for Guru Nanak's birthday.
