Kartik Poornima (Kartik purnima) or Karthika pournami 2010 is a Hindu holy day Festival celebrated on the full moon day or the fifteenth lunar day of Kartik (November-December).
It is also known as Tripuri poornima and Tripurari Poornima. It is sometimes called Deva-Diwali or Deva-Deppawali - the festival of lights of the gods.
Thiruvannamalai Maha Karthigai Deepam is the 10-day Karthigai Deepam festival celebrated at Arunchaleshwarar temple in Tiruvannamalai temple town in Karthigai masam.
Maha Karthigai Deepam 2010 has begun on 12 November with the hoisting of the holy flag at 5.30 am in front of the sanctum sanctorum of Arunachala temple. This grand festival will culminate on 21 November 2010 with Karthigai Deepam festival.
Karthigai Deepam represents Lord Shiva in the form of fire. During the 10-day festival Girivalam is performed by millions of devotees coming from across India and around the world.
On 22 November 2010, the deities of Annamalaiyar, Unnnamulai Amman, Parasakthi, Murugan Valli Deivanai, Vinayagar and Sundareswarar in the temple will be taken on procession along the girivalam.
