March 20, 2011 will be observed as World House Sparrow Day (WHSD) to focus on raising awareness about the decline of the common House Sparrow and to throw light on the problems faced by the House Sparrow in its daily fight for survival.Every creature has a significant role to play in the web of life. Just as the little house sparrow is a major indicator of the health of our environment, each of us can help in various ways to protect the house sparrow. We need to come forward to help the bird by raising awareness on the issue.
"A little bird, with plumage brown, / Beside my window flutters down,/ A moment chirps its little strain,/ Then taps upon my window-pane,/ And chirps again, and hops along,/ To call my notice to its song;" said Paul Laurence Dunbar in his poem titled The Sparrow.
