Karwa Chauth , the festival of North India , is celebrated by married women. They observe a fast for the long life of their husbands and later in the day, adorn bridal makeup. It falls on October 15 this year.



It begins before sunrise and ends only after offering prayers and worshiping the moon at night. No food or water can be taken after sunrise.

Women dress in fine clothing and wear jewellery, apply henna, and also dress in the complete finery of their wedding dresses. The dresses are frequently red or orange in color, which are considered auspicious colors.

The event and celebrations promise to grow bigger with each passing year. Besides the halwais, mehendiwalas and churiwalas, it's the beauty parlour owners, event managers and the restaurant owners whose business flourishes like anything with such events.

As people these days are more inclined towards 'eating out' most restaurants have special menus for this occasion. Even clubs organise special events on this day with various stalls, bumper prizes, dance competitions etc.

Since Karva Chauth follows soon after the Kharif crop harvest in the rural areas, it is a good time for community festivities and gift exchanges. Parents often send gifts to their married daughters and their children.

A family having 7 brothers and one sister. Sister name is veeravati. Brothers are very much affection with their sister. After marriage of veeravati, she back to their parents house due to occasion of karva chauth. She observed fasting after sunrise and end with Moon rise. After seeing the moon rise only she eat the food. Veeravati is follow the Karva Chauth fast very strictly. Veeravati's brothers are very much worried about her health. They decided to end her fasting. Then brothers reflected a mirror through trees. Veeravati belive this moon rise and break their fasting. At the same time veeravati's husband was not well. Veeravati want to her husband, on the way to her husband's place, she met lord shiva and Parvati Devi. Parvati Devi told her husband had died due to she broke her fasting with false moon rise. Parvati Devi asked to veeravati follow the karva chauth fasting is very strict. Then veeravati follows the karva chauth fast very strictly, after that her husband recovered.
