After absconding for nearly 48 hours, the controversial godman Swami Nithyananda was on Wednesday sent to day-long judicial custody minutes after he surrendered before a Bangalore court.
According to reports, the controversial spiritual guru made an appearance before the Ramanagaram district court here at 3.10 this afternoon.
Nithyananda, already facing criminal cases including rape on complaints from some former disciples last year.
The Karnataka police had launched a massive manhunt to arrest him after the state government ordered the closure of his hermitage following a clash between his opponents and his devotees.
Bangalore Police searched his hermitage today and seized several electronic items from there.
“We have been able to find out some of the electronic items that have to be deciphered by computer technicians. Tomorrow computer technicians will be joining our team for further investigation. We have almost searched 10 rooms,” District Magistrate Ram Reddy said.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police of the Ramanagar District, Anupam Aggarwal, said this morning that his team has failed to find any clue about Nithyananda.
The godman's disciples had summoned two news conferences last week to clear the air on the matter, but they ended in fracas as Nithyananda's men assaulted the newsmen.
