The reason is, the earth rotates from west to east and if the time zones ran east-west then it would put all countries on the equator in a single time zone. It would put some cities in the central part of the nation in the same time zone with the cities in the central Mexico. It is known that the Sun rises in Mexico around 11hours later, than it does in India!The current system doesn’t allow this kind of nuance.
