What is the meaning of popular word Namo

Off late I was reading a lot of comments having Namo in it.
Realised that the netiziens are using Namo as a short form for Mr. Narendra Modi
Namo will become more famous and a word of common use much before the 2014 elections.
Narendra Modi is expected to become the next PM of India, if he could beat his rivals for the post and BJP wins the 2014 elections.
