SRILANKA ELECTION RESULT:
COLOMBO — Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse has won a second term, defeating former
army chief Sarath Fonseka with a solid
57.9 percent of the popular vote, the Elections Commissioner said.
"President Mahinda Rajapakse is the winner," Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake announced in the presence of several candidates, including Rajapakse.
He said Rajapakse received
6.01 million votes,
1.84 million more than his main rival Fonseka.
