About Bodypainting
Bodypainting refers to a form of body shaping using color. This is applied directly to bare skin. Unlike tattoos, which are left permanently on the skin, the bodypaintings are only temporary.
The body paint can hold a few hours, or up to several weeks. The painting of the body with colors, goes back to primitive times. Since the stone age people used natural pigments such as ocher, manganese or charcoal to paint their bodies.
In many primitive tribes like the Indians, Maoris, Aborigines and African tribes this tradition has survived until today. It is used (as body jewelry, war paint, protection from ghosts and demons, insects or diseases , as eye protection, as well as a sign of mourning and tribal affiliation.
Nowadays, the body painting belongs to the realm of the body art. Special body artists hold increasing numbers of festivals and tournaments to present their art .
Bodypainting is mostly used on special occasions such as parties, rave parades during carnival or sporting events.
