Using the Insert Key to Paste Text

In Word, the Insert or INS key turns on or off the Overwrite feature by default. This can be confusing to new users. One would think it would insert copied text and objects. However, it is the Shift+Insert shortcut key that inserts copied text and objects.

If you want, you can change this:

1. Click Tools

2. Select Options

3. Click the Edit tab

4. Select Use the INS key for paste

5. Click OK

The Insert key will now insert copied text and objects. The Shift+Insert shortcut key will still insert copied text and objects.
