Highest and lowest temperatures

The highest temperature in the world was 136° Fahrenheit (58° Celsius), recorded at El Azizia, Libya, on the edge of the Sahara Desert, on September 13, 1922. The highest temperature ever recorded in the United States was 134° Fahrenheit (56.7° Celsius) in Death Valley, California, on July 10, 1913. The unofficial high temperature, which does not meet the international weather standards, was 140° Fahrenheit (60° Celsius). This was recorded at Delta, Mexico, in August 1953. Another unofficial high of 136.4° Fahrenheit (58° Celsius) was recorded at San Luis, Mexico, on August 11, 1933.

The lowest temperature on record is -128.6° Fahrenheit (-89.6° Celsius), measured at Vostok Station in Antarctica on July 21, 1983. The record cold temperature for an inhabited area was -90.4° Fahrenheit (-68° Celsius) at Oymyakon
