Toothpaste Can Be Harmful for Children
Teeth cleaner sweet toothpaste has now become an integral part of Lifestyle. But the chemicals often found in it may have adverse impact on health.
Many chemicals are mixed in toothpaste out of which fluoride is main. Due to decay, cavity appears in teeth. Fluoride helps to prevent the cavity hole of teeth. Sodium fluoride is present in most of toothpaste. Some brands are used monofluorophosphate. Generally 1000 PPM (parts per million) fluoride is present in toothpaste. This amount is dangerous for little kids. Due to this, process of mouth enzymes is disrupted and gum cells become weak.
In some toothpaste surfactant & foaming agent is also present. Surfactant is originally a detergent. These two agents help in removing the dirt of mouth. In foaming agent, sodium lauryl sulfate is present which damage the liver.
We are not aware about the difference between fluoride and non- fluoride toothpaste. In fact, fluoride paste manufacturers often print on the packages that it may not be suitable for children. As toothpaste taste is sweet so children eat it. We should keep toothpaste away from children.
Prevention:
* Little amount of toothpaste should be placed on children’s brush.
* Keep toothpaste out of reach of small children.
* While children brush their teeth make sure the toothpaste is being spit out.
* Use toothpaste which is certified by the Indian Dental Association.
* Herbal toothpaste is beneficial for children.
